And while this feature has remained largely the same since Android Pie all the way to Android 11, one can’t deny that the process of going into split-screen is a bit lengthy and cumbersome.

Hence, the geniuses at Samsung came up with an innovative way to create app pairs in split-screen mode. Such pairs show up as a single app in the recents menu allowing users to very intuitively switch between them.

The advantage of this implementation is that users no longer have to set up a pair of apps they use together often each and every time. Instead, one can have multiple app pairs and switch between them easily.

That said, not everyone is buying the new feature. This is because when in split-screen, One UI 3.0 classes a duo as a single app. And that’s how they show up in the recents menu as well.

Moreover, one can’t change the bottom/top app within the multitasking menu. Instead, they truly do get reduced to a single app. All this has proven to be counterintuitive for many and has hence led to a slew of complaints.

Does everyone else have this issue, when in split screen One UI 3.0 classes it as paired apps and you can’t change the bottom app within the multitasking menu which is the way it should work. I’ve just tested split screen on a Pixel 4a with Android 11 and it works how it should, I think Samsung has messed this up.

Obviously, a major change like this can never please everyone. There are plenty of people that are loving the new implementation as well. Therefore, Samsung should’ve at least added an option to switch between the two split-screen methods.

Or they could simply allow the alteration of the split-screen app pair without having to create an entirely new pair. This way, everyone will be pleased.

Minecraft does not support controllers, so you will need multiple keyboards and mice.

Please note that if you are using a high polling rate mouse, input will be very stuttery for about a minute after split screen starts.

If you are using Minecraft 1.12 or earlier, use the Minecraft 1.14.3 preset and enable “Send fake window focus messages”

To launch two separate Minecraft instances, we will need a launcher called MultiMC

1. Download and extract MultiMC

2. Run MultiMC and log in with your Mojang account.

3. Create two(or more) instances by clicking Add Instance. Make sure they have a different names.

4. (Optional) Install OptiFine with MultiMC for better performance.

5. • (If you have multiple Minecraft accounts) Select the first instance and click Launch. Change account in the top-right corner, then repeat for the second instance.
   • (If you have one Minecraft account) Select the first instance and click Launch Offline. Set your username to anything. Repeat for the second instance

6. Make sure the games are running in windowed mode. Resize them however you like.

7. Start a singleplayer world and open to LAN in the pause menu. The other player can join from the multiplayer menu. Alternatively, you can connect to any server (with multiple Minecraft accounts) or an ‘Offline’ server (if you have one Minecraft account).

8. (Minecraft 1.14.4 or higher) Make sure to disable Raw input in Options -> Controls -> Mouse settings.

2. In options, select the preset and click Load.
   • For Minecraft 1.14.3 and higher, you should use the Minecraft 1.14.3 preset.
   • For versions 1.13 to 1.14.2, use Minecraft Alternate. If split screen doesn’t work, try the other preset (after restarting the instances).
   • For 1.12 and older, use the Minecraft 1.14.3 preset. Make sure ‘Send fake window focus messages’ is enabled.

3. Go back to the Current window tab.

4. Alt+tab into the first game. Set the mouse and keyboard. Repeat for the second game.

5. Click Start split screen. You should now be able to play. Press End to stop.

Tips

• If you have inconsistent mouse movement, especially when moving multiple mice, make sure the polling rates on your mice are set as low as possible. You can usually set this in your mouse configuration program (look on the manufacturer’s website).

• If the mouse cursor is flickering, try setting VSync on by dragging the FPS limit slider to the left.

• Joining a Minecraft server with ‘anti-cheat’ will not get you banned if you use Hooks(in the options), since servers cannot run code on your machine.

• You can click Toggle window borders to remove the window title, giving you more space.

• If you want to use an existing save, copy it from C:UsersYOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAMEAppDataRoaming.minecraftsaves to MultiMCinstancesINSTANCE_NAME.minecraftsaves, replacing YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME and INSTANCE_NAME as necessary.
